Stove-top White Rice
(makes about 6 cups of rice)

Pam loves to cook but often asks me to make the rice! Why you ask? It's because she's used to her electronic rice cooker and seldom makes it on the stove. (The stove is a little faster.)

Fortunately it's very easy to do..

Get a pot with a tight fitting lid and bring two cups of any kind of white rice and 4 cups of water to a rapid boil.

As soon as it is at a rolling boil turn it down to a very slow simmer and put the lid on. Set your watch, alarm clock, kitchen timer or the timer on your microwave for 16 minutes.

After 16 minutes it should be ready to serve.

At our house we add a tablespoon of butter to the water (before it boils) for every cup of dried rice. I stir the bottom of the pot when I turn it down to a simmer. I also lift the lid after a few minutes just to make sure that it's steaming lightly.

2 cups dried white rice
4 cups of water
2 tablespoons of salted butter (optional)
